Bioengineering Innovation Center for Cancer

This center is currently focused on developing point-of-care devices for detecting and testing of cancers. By merging the advances in microfluidics with micro fabrication technologies, the group is trying to introduce novel platforms that lead to fast and accurate detection of Circulating Tumor Cells in early stages. Analytical, computational and experimental approaches are designed for modeling, simulation and improved understanding of cellular regulation in human health and disease, to develop new cell cancer isolation microchips.

Another project is “Angiogenesis Improvement with Gradually Stiffened Hydrogel”. The goal of this new research is investigation on the role of gradually stiffened environment of ECs during vessel formation. The experimental and analytical results of this study will be used in tissue engineering, for the fabrication of large body organs such as heart and kidney by cells, and understanding of metastasis process in cancer studies. These are joint works with Royan research Institute and in collaboration with BioMEMS and Bioinspired Microfluidic Laboratory at University of Calgary.

The other research works are:

- Design and Fabrication of a Microfluidic Device for Cell Separation by DLD Technique Using Capillarity and Wettability Driven Flow, which is actually a novel pump-less technique.

- A joint research project focusing on the identification of special bio markers for screening of common cancers. Our aim is approaching single blood test that screens for common cancers.

- Lab on Chip for Exosome and EV isolation and separation;

- A joint research project focusing on the identification of special bio markers for screening of common cancers. Our aim is approaching single blood test that screens for common cancers.

- Bioinformatic project to collect and form a standard bank of cellular and inter-cellular specifications data  source (big data) in different cancers;

-A study on traditional Iranian methods in cancer prevention and diagnosis;
